Nicki Brancatisano is an artist based on Cammeraygal Country (Sydney). Moving between painting and drawing, her practice explores how an image can be both improvised and meticulously realised. Through a sustained and intimate engagement with materials, Nicki has honed a sensitivity to surface and pigment that allows for spontaneous, intuitive mark-making and gesture to be absorbed into cohesive pictorial systems. She wants her work to appear both discovered and composed, creating a compelling sense of paradoxical inevitability.

Nicki has a Bachelor of Media Arts with Fine Arts Honours from UNSW Art and Design. This year, she completed a summer residency in painting at Turps Art School, London, culminating in an exhibition at Turps Gallery. Nicki has studied at Willem de Kooning Academie, Rotterdam, Netherlands, and has taken part in Arteles’ Silence Awareness Existence residency, Hämeenkyrö, Finland. She has been recognised as a finalist in the Adelaide Perry and Dobell Drawing Prizes.
